Why use seasonally-adjusted U-3 and non-seasonally-adjusted U-6? It looks like the change in both is just seasonality as there was no change from June in the non-seasonally-adjusted numbers for either.

Fixed. My first version didn’t even have the parenthetical for the seasonally adjusted (SA) data because I read the wrong column. I went back and added the parenthetical after realizing my mistake. Now I’ve reversed which statistic is the parenthetical. It was particularly amusing because I defended SA over NSA data later in the post (and I am a fan of NSA data for other things, just not analyzing trends). Always use SA data for trends (though be aware of anomalies in the adjustments, like the auto layoffs in the employment data just last month — I don’t know what impact it would have had on this report).

Take into account that I have to wake up at 5:30 am to read most official reports. The rest of my life is based on Pacific Standard Time. Most of my morning posts are pre-coffee.

Pretty impressive post for that early, actually.
