Does anyone think this merits two years in jail?  The man shot himself—why isn’t that punishment enough?

I think it’s fair. I don’t want anyone bringing an illegal gun to a bar in New York whether they accidentally shoot themselves or not (I’m not anti-gun rights generally, though). The quote is misleading. He wasn’t sentenced for shooting himself; he was sentenced for bringing the gun.
