“We won this war because our men are brave and because of many things — because of Russia, England and China and the passage of time and the gift of nature’s material. We did not win it because destiny created us better than all other peoples. I hope that in victory we are more grateful than we are proud.”

I love this quotation.
Also, I’ve spent some time learning about WWII. The more I learn, the more convinced I become: we won because of Russia. If Hitler hadn’t been insane and greedy and just kept them as a nominal ally, focussing all of Germany’s military on the Western front, I think the war could easily have gone the other way.
(via wiesen)Interesting. We were also extremely lucky to have started building Grand Coulee Dam in 1933, completed in 1941, allowing the huge electricity-suck of producing aluminum in high volume. The German pilots were better but the US could just produce more planes.
is beautiful. Destiny created us all as equals, yet opportunity knocked better at others’ doors.
