4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days
I watched the 2007 Palme d’Or winner, 4 luni, 3 saptamâni si 2 zile, last night. That is an intense movie. I think that whatever your opinion on Roe v Wade, you will probably strengthen your opinion after watching this movie. I don’t want to say too much but I’m very thankful we live in a country post Roe v Wade. Don’t be scared; see it.The tumblr feedback loop can be incredibly rewarding. Matt, did you see it in theaters, on DVD or VOD? Thanks for watching, however you did!
You don’t want to know! However, I also saw Paranoid Park last week and thought it was great. I saw Elephant at the Tribeca Film Festival five years ago (five years! where did it go?) and Gus Van Sant was there to talk about it afterwards. So great. His use of the dramatic walk between scenes is perfect. I don’t know of anyone else who does that. In Paranoid Park, I thought he nailed the theme (how do you forgive yourself for a mistake) and the awkwardness of high school, as he did in Elephant. None of these are popcorn movies but important things to think about. Van Sant’s explanation of how they picked the title of Elephant I think applies to all three of these movies: these topics are something everyone can see, everyone knows they’re a problem and no one wants to talk about them. The elephant in the room.
