The above data is part of that page and shows just exactly how much trouble Georgia is in and why they are asking for US and NATO assistance. However, I don’t believe that’s likely because this seems true: The Russians hold a trump card with the Americans: Iran. They can flood Iran with weapons at will. Also, we can’t even shift troops to Afghanistan until we pull them from Iraq. Getting involved in a third simultaneous war seems like a sure loser. Especially if there’s a chance, I don’t know how large, that it would start a FOURTH simultaneous war with Iran at a time when that possibility is growing anyway. Giving the Russians an excuse to increase Iranian arms seems like a bad idea.
