Sarah Simmons and Michael Galpert, two people I am privileged to call friends, are teaming up for some food events and next week there are three in NYC: dinners on Wednesday (4/6), Friday (4/8) and Saturday (4/9).
You might know Sarah because last year she was named the best home cook in the country by Food & Wine magazine. You might know Michael from Aviary or because somehow he knows everyone.
Highly recommended.
This was so fun! Hoda and Kathie Lee are great!

Great, it’s 11am and I want short ribs. THANKS A LOT, SARAH.
So great!
Cards are in the air. No huge stacks at my table. Looks like some tough players though. But I’m tougher.
My good friend Mirza has made it to day 3 of the WSOP Main Event and is trying to better his finish of 337th (out of 6,844) from a couple years ago. He’s tumbling the tournament with help from his brother Omar at zwsop.tumblr.com if anyone is interested in following along.
In the Editor’s letter of the March issue of Food & Wine magazine, Dana Cowin made an announcement. After crafting answers to five short essay questions and spending months uploading content showcasing my culinary and entertaining skills, they chose me out of thousands of contestants as the Nation’s best home cook.
This is an honor that comes with many rewards. First, I’m simply elated to be recognized by such an esteemed publication. Second, I was fortunate enough to receive the grand prize which was an unbelievable, life-changing trip to the Cayman Cookout in January. And, finally, through this contest I was able to read endorsements by my dear friends who took the time to share the most lovely things about me and my food with the magazine. Reading their sentiments was truly a gift that I will carry with me always.
Thank you to Food & Wine magazine, my amazing friends and urban family, Grant Achatz for inspiring me to be a more creative cook, and to my mother who taught me my way around the kitchen.
Congratulations, Sarah. You deserve it. (How lucky are we to know the best home cook in the country?)
